Areas of Expertise

My teaching, research, and public engagement spans two interconnected domains: Israeli society and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Canadian immigration and refugee policy. These are not separate silos — they reflect a career built at the intersection of identity, displacement, democracy, and belonging.

Israel & the Middle East

Israel's Founding & the 1948 War

The events of 1948 — Israel's War of Independence and the Palestinian Nakba — remain one of the most contested and consequential moments in modern history. I teach and speak on this period with attention to competing historical narratives, archival sources, and the long shadow these events cast on the present.

Israeli Democracy & Governance

Israel is a parliamentary democracy with a complex political landscape shaped by coalition politics, ethno-religious divisions, and ongoing constitutional tensions. My work examines the institutions, political culture, and challenges to democratic governance — including recent judicial reform debates.

The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

One of the most discussed and least understood conflicts of our era. I approach it through rigorous historical and political analysis, resisting simplification without sacrificing clarity. Audiences leave with a deeper understanding of core issues, competing claims, and why resolution remains elusive.

Identity, Diaspora & Jewish Communities

Drawing on my experience in Jewish community organizations in North America and Israel, I speak on Diaspora-Israel relations, the evolving politics of Jewish identity, and the dynamics of minority and community institutions.

Canadian Immigration & Refugee Policy

Asylum Seekers & Refugee Protection

Canada's refugee determination system is complex, under-resourced, and under-discussed. Drawing on direct experience managing refugee settlement at JIAS Toronto, I analyze policy gaps, processing backlogs, and the human impact of administrative decisions.

From temporary residents to permanent pathways to citizenship, Canadian immigration policy is in a period of significant flux. I provide evidence-based analysis of policy changes, demographic trends, and the political economy driving Canada's immigration decisions.

Settlement, Integration & Social Cohesion

Arriving is not the same as belonging. I work on the programs, policies, and community structures that support — or fail — newcomers in building lives in Canada. This includes work on mental health, anti-racism, and culturally appropriate service delivery.
